2019 Color of the Year: 4 Ways to Incorporate Living Coral in Your Kitchen

Posted February 13, 2019 by Gracie DeSantis

The Pantone Color Institute, the team of color geniuses responsible for developing Tiffany Blue and Minion Yellow, is the premier authority on everything color. Each year since 2000, they meet at a secret location to decide on a color of the year. The color of the year is chosen to reflect what is going on in the world and perhaps offer a little something we all may need. For example, Honeysuckle was chosen for 2011 to lift spirits in a tumultuous world. Fashion designers, wedding planners, florists, advertising companies, and home designers all wait anxiously for the unveiling of the color of the year. This includes us at Cabinets To Go.

Living Coral

For 2019, Pantone has chosen Living Coral (16-1546).  They describe the orange-ish pink as, “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

As we go sailing on the ocean of life, as tossed around by the currents as we may be, we all hope to navigate toward peace and joy. In 2019, our currents are full of flotsam and jetsam in the form of constant bombardment by social media and our digital landscapes. Living Coral is a color that brings an airy feeling of peace and energy. It is a color of authenticity and drives immersive experiences.

We at Cabinets To Go are certainly exited by the design opportunities this color will inspire. We’ve come up with three ways to feature this color in your home.

Monochromatic

Monochromatic looks – or using different shades of the same color – are popping up across all fields of design from makeup to home decor. As a bright, secondary color, this color of the year is perfect for a monochromatic kitchen. Pair Living Coral decor with softer hues of coral as well as deeper and more intense shades to create an interesting and unique color palette.

Reef Breezes

Living Coral gets its name for a reason. Bright. Vibrant. Vivacious and all natural, you can’t help but feel drawn to its tropical warmth. Turn your kitchen into a getaway and use white cabinets alongside this color of the year. And don’t be afraid to grab a few rugged textiles with funky geometrics. Plus, with a few palm fronts, your kitchen will feel like a breezy escape.

Feminine Chic

In the end, coral is a kind of pink, so let that pink do its thing. Keep other colors to a minimum. Opt for a wash of grey, black and white stripes, or perhaps a little bit of gold or silver – but not both! – as an accent to make this color of the year really pop.

Of course, these aren’t the only three ways to utilize such an amazing color. There are countless ways to use the 2019 color of the year in the design of your kitchen or home space.
